By partnering with Sears, Next aims to avoid the pitfalls that have plagued many UK retailers that have tried to crack the US market. Marks & Spencer, Tesco, J Sainsbury and Dixons have all had ill-fated forays here. Topshop and Burberry, however, are two UK fashion retailers that have caused a positive stir by opening their own stores in the US.
